Tooth Extractions Plantation
Tooth Removal That Promotes Better Oral Health
Unhealthy teeth can oftentimes be treated with restorative solutions like dental crowns or root canal treatment. However, when extensive damage or decay cannot successfully be treated with these methods, your oral health may be at risk. This means the only remaining solution is tooth extraction. At Plantation Dental Studio and Implant Center, Dr. Alejandro Lamas and our team can deliver a safe and successful approach, ensuring your comfort while also improving your long-term health. Call us today if you have one or more teeth that may need removal.

When are Tooth Extractions Necessary?

Preserving your natural smile is Dr. Lamas’ goal during every appointment; however, when attempts to save a tooth with restorative care prove ineffective, he will recommend tooth extraction. Additional reasons for removal include:
- Advanced gum disease is causing bone loss, which results in one or more teeth becoming loose
- Dental prosthetics are needed but additional room is required
- Overcrowded teeth lack the necessary space to shift with orthodontic treatment
- Extensive decay makes the tooth no longer salvageable
- A tooth is impacted beneath the gumline
The Process of Removing a Tooth

There are two types of extraction – simple and surgical. If the tooth is visible above the gumline, Dr. Lamas can use dental pliers to gently rock it back and forth. This will encourage the tooth to detach from the ligaments holding it in place.
If the tooth exists under the gums, a more invasive procedure is required. Your gums will be opened to reveal the impacted tooth, and it will be sectioned before removal so that the extraction process does not further irritate or impact the bone.
Tooth Extraction Aftercare

Recovering after tooth extraction requires that you follow various instructions provided by our dental team. The most common risk associated with post-treatment recovery is a dry socket. To avoid complications and allow your mouth to fully heal, you’ll need to:
- Take over-the-counter pain relievers as directed to minimize discomfort
- Keep your head elevated when resting
- Eat soft foods initially until you are more comfortable consuming a normal diet
- Drink lots of water to stay hydrated and keep your mouth from becoming dry
- Avoid using a straw or spitting when rinsing your mouth, as this can dislodge the blood clot and cause a dry socket
- Avoid physical activity of any kind for several days
- Practice good oral hygiene but be careful when cleaning near the extraction site
- Do not smoke or use tobacco products
