Saving Infected Teeth & Providing Pain Relief

Fortunately, dentistry has come a long way, revealing a more smile-friendly solution – root canal treatment. Although it has gained the reputation of being a procedure that patients fear, it is actually one of the safest, most reliable ways to save teeth from extraction. Not to mention, root canal treatment in Plantation also eliminates the cause of pain, which is the infection. Contact our office if you have a tooth that has been bothering you for some time.

Do I Need Root Canal Treatment?

Dr. Lamas may recommend root canal treatment if you:
- Suffer significant facial trauma that results in a cracked or broken tooth
- Have an abscess or infection in the root of a tooth
- Experience decay that is spreading and causing damage that cannot be treated with a dental filling or crown
- Experience inflammation because of nerve damage within a tooth
What Happens During a Root Canal?

The appointment will begin with Dr. Lamas administering local anesthesia. Your mouth will become numb, preventing you from feeling any pain during the procedure. The tooth will then be separated from all other teeth with the help of a dental dam. This latex material isolates the tooth so that moisture does not enter the space.
After prepping your mouth, he will create a tiny opening in the top of the tooth, which will gain him access to the various root canals and pulp chamber. He will make sure to clean out the diseased portions as well as remove the infected pulp before sanitizing the interior.
A biocompatible solution known as gutta-percha will then be used to fill the space previously occupied by the pulp, ensuring the tooth maintains its structural integrity. After placing a dental filling to seal off the tooth from potential bacteria, you will undergo digital impressions so that a custom dental crown can be crafted.
After a few weeks, you will come back for a second appointment to have your new crown secured over your treated tooth to deliver maximum protection.
